Modern Political Cartoons
Modern political cartoons often have to do with issues in the new today. Similar to how the cartoons were used previously, the cartoons are meant to be through provoking. Considering where politics are today, I would say that there are more cartoons bashing other ideas rather than inspiring debate about issues.
The only different in today's society would be the fact that due to our technological culture, cartoonists are possibly getting more well known. Cartoonists are not locked into only being produced on newspapers and magazines, now thanks to Facebook and other social-networking sites, cartoonists can go viral with one well drawn cartoon.

Current cartoons are useful for both those who follow political ideas as well as for those who don't. This cartoon on the right was created for the 2012 Presidential Election with candidates Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama. The gear shift symbolizes the Supreme Court whereas the nominees campaign symbols are in the words "forward" and "reverse." Cartoons like this are typical during campaigns and elections in order to show differing opinions or a varying stance on issues. |
